The Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton is committed to recognizing and addressing anti-Black racism and the systemic barriers experienced by African Canadian children, youth, families, and communities.
We acknowledge the impact that child welfare systems have had on Black communities and are committed to ongoing learning, accountability, and action to strengthen our services, address inequities, and support positive outcomes for Black children, youth, and families.
Anti-Black Racism Solidarity Statement
Race Equity Practices
CCASH is committed to implementing the 11 Race Equity Practices outlined in the One Vision One Voice (OVOV) practice framework. Developed by the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS), OVOV provides guidance to child welfare organizations in identifying and addressing anti-Black racism and advancing race equity in child welfare practice.
Through this work, CCASH continues to review and strengthen our policies, practices, and service delivery approaches to better support African Canadian children, youth, families, and communities.
Supporting Black Children and Youth
CCASH is committed to supporting Black children and youth in care to build strong connections to their families, communities, cultures, and identities.
Through Afrocentric programming, children and youth have opportunities to explore their heritage, strengthen their sense of belonging, and connect with peers and mentors who understand their experiences.
Our African Canadian Affinity Group, Ubuntu — “I am because we are,” provides a space for Black staff to build community, support one another, and contribute to ongoing improvements in how we serve Black children, youth, and families.
