Ms. Button currently works as the Indigenous Education lead for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB). Ms. Button worked to implement, coordinate and sustain the native Youth Advancement with Education (NYA:WEH) program for over 14 years, providing in her role as the Indigenous Youth Advisor, a culturally based support program/environment for Indigenous students. In the past, she also worked for the Metis Nation of Ontario, and Hamilton’s Regional Indian Centre (HRIC) with the Strengthening Hamilton’s Aboriginal Education (SHAE) program. Ms. Button has 20 years of experience working with and collaborating with Hamilton’s Indigenous students, families, communities, and organizations. As a person of Indigenous ancestry, she believes she can contribute her voice, knowledge, and understanding of the historical, geographical and cultural needs and circumstances that have led to epidemic numbers of Indigenous children and youth in care.
